What You’ll Do

Job Purpose:
The Educator provides critical support to families through attentive care and active development of children entrusted to them.

Job Environment:

Little Petal CC provides a unique experience for families through the provision of in-home child care services centred around holistic care, development/education, secure attachments, and safety. Our staff have a deep desire to see children be the best they can, and our staff provide engaging, caring, and practical supports for families to facilitate positive child development opportunities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a Child Safe Environment by ensuring that the health, safety, and wellbeing of children engaged with Little Petal CC is always protected.

  • Fulfilling duty of care obligations under the National law by protecting children from any reasonable and foreseeable risk of injury or harm.

  • Reporting any suspected child harm, abuse or neglect, or risk of child harm, abuse, and neglect.

  • Supervising and supporting the daily routine of children under care of Little Petal CC within the family home including nap times.

  • Supervising and supporting hygiene best practices for children under care of Little Petal CC including, teaching them how to wash their hands properly before and after mealtimes.

  • Supervising and supporting children under care of Little Petal CC with their toileting needs, including, potty training and changing nappies.

  • Supervising children under care of Little Petal CC outside of the family home, including when attending parks and other extracurricular activities.

  • Safely transporting children under Little Petal CC care including, to and from school/childcare/kindergarten, appointments, and other extracurricular activities in a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.

  • Preparing and promoting stimulating age-appropriate activities for children that aims
    to support their developmental needs including, social, physical, and emotional needs.

  • Tailoring activities to a child's interests, developmental abilities, and personality.

  • Assisting and supporting children under Little Petal CC care with homework and other school-related activities to improve their educational outcomes.

  • Completing necessary administrative tasks in a timely manner, including record keeping and reporting.

  • Maintaining a professional attitude at all times and upholding Little Petal CC Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures.

  • Communicating respectfully with primary carers at all times including, when addressing any challenges that arise.

  • Working with primary carers to help children progress toward educational and behavioral goals.

  • Role modelling how to appropriately manage a child’s behaviours and meet their needs including, physical, developmental and emotional needs.

  • Supporting primary carers to explore and develop secure attachment with their children.

  • Preparing nutritional food choices for children and encouraging them to try new things, within reason and according to specific dietary requirements including, allergies.

  • Caring for up to, but not exceeding 7 children in total at any one time, with no more than four children who are pre-school age or under.

  •  Light house duties including, cleaning after meal preparation, keeping the child’s environment safe and clean, maintaining clean and clutter free floor space. Other duties will be discussed between family, educator, and approved provider.

  • Administering First Aid to a child when required and reporting incidents to both management and the family on the day of the occurrence.

  • Follow reasonable instructions, work procedures, and practices to maintain the health and safety of yourself and others.

  • Report all identified workplace hazards and incidents.

Educator Required Attributes:

  • Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.

  • Sound knowledge of child protection laws and reporting obligations.

  • Exceptional patience and ability to remain calm in various situations.

  • Excellent communication skills and engaging demeanour.

  • Creativity, compassion, and professionalism are a must.

  • Fun and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Ability to come up with creative ideas to educate and engage children.

  • Physically able to perform tasks, including sitting on the floor, bending, and standing
    for periods of time (some lifting is likely to be involved).

  • Must be a fit person and able to pass a criminal background check.​

 

Essential:

  • Must have a current Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children
    Check.

  • Hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services qualification or evidence of enrolment in
    Certificate III in Children’s Services, or equivalent qualifications.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.

  •  Completed current Child Safe Environments training.

  • Completed current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect training.

  • Experience working with children of various ages and varying developmental needs.

  • Sound knowledge of child development needs.

  • Hold a current and valid driver’s licence and possess a satisfactory driving record.

  • Reliable, registered, and insured vehicle to transport children.

 

Desirable

  • Training related to trauma (SMART), child development, secure attachment, and children’s therapy is highly desirable.
